Connecting Leadership Colleagues and Employees Through Storytelling, Radical Conversation, and Mining Collective Intelligence
GLOBAL MEDIA CLIENT
The Challenge
The head of Talent and Culture for a global media company saw the power of the arts to expose the senior leadership team to the lived experiences of marginalized groups in the workplace. The strategy was to create “empathy shock” discomfort around situations requiring more evolved leadership capacities to create a more inclusive culture.
What We Did
We co-created a custom play and program around the intersectionality of gender and ethnicity, which the leadership team viewed, followed by an artfully facilitated conversation. We created and facilitated a strong, safe, and trusted space for them to share their feelings about the scenarios and implications for shifts that need to happen regarding mindsets, cultural awareness, and bias.
Impact
The CEO identified new top-down leadership approaches used to cascade throughout the organization, and several members of the leadership team contracted to roll out the event to their entire team
Client enrolled internal “Impact/Working Groups” as allies and input into the process
Client requested us to create a new program to roll out globally
“It was an extremely well-crafted performance that stirred some very thoughtful and provocative discussion in the breakout rooms.”
Real Results
Over 90% of those who responded to surveys:
Feel more connected with colleagues as a result of having these conversations
Reflect more deeply on race and other inequities in the workplace and the world
Understand inclusive leadership capacities and intentionality in having radical conversations
